John Karalis

Upon graduating from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1963, John Karalis practiced law in Minnesota until joining Honeywell, Inc. in 1970. He served as Associate General Counsel of Honeywell from 1970 to 1983, where he was responsible for the legal affairs of its computer business. He was named a Corporate Vice President in 1982. In 1985, he joined Sperry Corporation in New York as Senior Vice President and General Counsel. Upon Sperry’s merger with Burroughs Corporation in 1986, he was named Vice President and Special Counsel of Unisys Corporation. From 1987 to 1989 he served as Vice President and General Counsel of Apple Computer, Inc.

From 1983 to 1985 and from 1989 to 1992 he practiced law in Phoenix, serving high technology companies worldwide. He also served as an adjunct professor at Arizona State University College of Law and received a Distinguished Achievement Award from Arizona State University in 1985. He served on the Advisory Board of the Arizona State University College of Law Center for the Study of Law, Science, and Technology from 1983 to 1989 and from 1998 to now. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the American Judicature Society from 1988 to 1992.

Karalis joined Tektronix, Inc., a Portland, Oregon based global electronics company from 1992-1998, where he served as Senior Vice President of Corporate Development and was a member of its management policy committee. His primary role included overall responsibility for acquisitions, alliances and divestiture programs. He served as Tektronix lead director in its long standing Japanese joint venture, Sony/Tektronix, and as Chairman of Tektronix Development Company. At various times he oversaw Tektronix law, communications, human resources, and real estate departments and was its corporate secretary. He also served as Chairman of Tektronix Foundation from 1993 to 1998. He retired in 1998. He recently left retirement to join Geoffrey H. Edmunds & Associates, Inc. as in house counsel.
